Meet Sharon
The chapter in Sharon's story that brought her to politics started with a door knock - the knock of Kyle Miller, when he was first running for this same office in 2018. Sharon had always had the dream of running for office, but becoming friends with Kyle, and observing how he has run his campaigns, canvassing and ultimately representing our county is what made her believe she could do it. During the pandemic, Sharon had the opportunity to learn more about accessibility for those who are neurodivergent. This lead to a passion for helping those who need accessibility for all reasons, including the disabled community, language accessibility, and accesibility of infrastructure for all. Sharon believes in servant leadership, and not ever asking those on her team to do something that she is not also willing to do. Sharon hopes to be the voice for her constituents, and recognizes it is a priviledged position to do so.
Sharon has been rooted in Fort Wayne, but believes in looking from a global perspective. She was proud to spend K-12 in Fort Wayne Community schools, which allowed her to meet individuals with diverse backgrounds. Educational experiences in early have been critical to how she views the world today. Sharon is proud of her education in both Fort Wayne Community Schools and beyond. She holds 2 Masters degrees, and uses those daily in her work in educational technology as well as higher education.
Sharon comes from a family of varied experiences. Her father was an early pioneer in computer and radio engineering. Her mother initially planned to be a music educator, but also spent many years raising Sharon and her sister. When Sharon was in high school, she encountered an unexpected career experience as a church secretary, where she remains today. Sharon's parents are representative of the variety found in her family. Education, music, engineering, faith, as well as farming were all values instilled for Sharon at a young age. Sharon has brought this variety into her own career. She has been firm footed in roles within education, including as an adjunct instructor at area universities, an academic advisor at Purdue Fort Wayne, and briefly as a dual credit instructor at Homestead High School. Currently, she works full time as a Project Manager for an educational technology company that produces websites, apps and mass communication systems for schools across the United States and Canada.
